Sariola Light is a light roast decaf coffee from Colombia: smooth and sweet, with nougat and wild strawberry. If you are looking for a decaf that is still fruity and sweet, Sariola Light is your coffee.

The light roast version of Sariola has flavours of nougat, toffee and wild strawberry, plus the sweetness of nectarine. As a dark roast, the coffee brings out stronger flavours of chocolate and dark grape, and the sweetness is a little lighter.

Decaf coffee is great at any time of day, and modern processing methods mean the coffee keeps its characteristic flavours even when the caffeine is removed.

We recommend Sariola Light for filter coffee.

The decaffeination process

Sariola is decaffeinated using the EA method. The coffee beans are sorted and steamed for 30 minutes at low pressure, which prepares the coffee for decaffeination by opening up its so-called pores. The coffee is then placed in a solution of water and ethyl acetate. EA is a naturally occurring compound and solvent, obtained as a by-product of fermentation. The solution binds to the salts of chlorogenic acids that coffee naturally contains. The tank is drained and refilled over eight hours until no more caffeine can be detected. Finally, the coffee is dried and packed for shipping.
