Kalervo Dark is a Brazilian dark roast coffee for you if you are looking for a dark, full-bodied everyday coffee. It is the same Yellow Bourbon from Fazenda do Cruzeiro as our medium roast Kalervo, but our dad Olli roasts it further in Mikkeli, Finland. The darker roast brings body, chocolate and the sweetness of nougat to the cup. It is good black, but our customers especially praise it as a round, smooth morning coffee with milk.

What is Kalervo Dark good for?

Kalervo Dark is made for everyday life: morning filter coffee, boiled coffee at the cabin and the moka pot. It also works as espresso, flat white and cappuccino, because its full body does not get lost in milk. Choose the grind to suit your brewer and we grind the coffee for you. If you grind at home, take whole beans.

The origins of Kalervo

The history of Fazenda do Cruzeiro dates back to 1923, when Avelino Ferreira de Aguiar and Maria Julia de Paiva Aguiar were married. Both came from traditional families in the municipality of Santo Antônio do Amparo. As a farmer and coffee grower, Avelino distinguished himself by striving for continuous development in his business. He was one of the first in the entire region to have electricity, a telephone line and running water in his household. Avelino was also a pioneer who installed a coffee processing machine, which was very advanced for the time.

The current owner, Ivan Junqueira Ribeiro, bought the shares belonging to his mother, uncles and aunts, and reunited the estate in 2006. Ivan and his brother spent their weekends and holidays at Fazenda do Cruzeiro with their grandparents from a young age. Because of this, Ivan wanted to continue operations on the farm to keep his family's memories alive, to invest in an alternative business and to give his daughters the same good experiences he had on the farm as a child.

Does dark roast coffee have more caffeine than light roast?

No. Roasting barely changes the amount of caffeine, so the difference to light roast is small. How much coffee you use and how you brew it affect the caffeine in your cup more. Dark roast just tastes stronger.

What is the difference between Kalervo and Kalervo Dark?

Same coffee, different roast. The dark roast brings out body, chocolate and nougat.

Kalervo Dark or Pellervo Dark?

Both are Brazilian dark roast coffees from the same farm. Kalervo Dark is Yellow Bourbon with notes of chocolate and nougat. Pellervo Dark is Topazio with dark chocolate and berry notes. If you cannot choose, take 500 g of each and compare.

Is Kalervo Dark good for a drip coffee maker?
