Women's Crown - Rugori Experimental - Rwandan light roast coffee
Orange • Sweet apple • Hints of cherry • Yogurt
Women's Crown is a Rwandan light roast coffee: fruity, with orange and cherry. The coffee was produced and processed entirely by women, and it is the first coffee in our Kirjala Limited series.
Grown high up, at 1,600–2,100 metres above sea level, these coffees go through careful processing. The result is a nuanced, balanced flavour profile where you can find cherry, berries, yogurt, sweet apple, green tea, orange and herbal notes. A full body and a multi-layered, sweet acidity round it all off.
Celebrating the work of women farmers: Rugori experimental is an experimental micro-lot from Gasharu Coffee, produced and processed entirely by women.
Most of the work in coffee farming and processing is done by women, yet only a small share of the income from coffee goes to women, despite their contribution and responsibility on the farms.
About Gasharu Coffee
A young, innovative producer that puts quality first.
Gasharu Coffee is a Rwandan family business whose roots go back to 1976, when young farmer Célestin Rumenerangabo planted his first coffee trees in the Nyamasheke region. Today the company is run by his son, and Gasharu has two washing stations, Gasharu and Muhororo, where more than 1650 smallholder farmers bring their harvest for processing.
Their range includes processed, washed and honey-processed coffees as well as innovative anaerobic experiments.
Gasharu CWS produces up to 8 containers of coffee a year.
