Which decaf coffee is best for you?

Both our decaf coffees are the same Colombian Sariola, but the roast makes them very different:

  • Bright and sweet, for filter coffee: Sariola Light: nougat, toffee, wild strawberry, nectarine. One customer bought it as an evening coffee and now drinks it all day.
  • A full-bodied and chocolatey decaf dark roast: Sariola Dark: chocolate, dark grape, sweet

Our dad Olli roasts Sariola in small batches in Mikkeli. You can get them as whole beans or ground for boiled coffee, Chemex, drip coffee, moka pot or espresso, in 250 g, 500 g and 1 kg bags.

How is the caffeine removed from Sariola?

Sariola is decaffeinated with the EA method. The coffee beans are steamed and treated with a solution of water and ethyl acetate, which removes the caffeine. Ethyl acetate is a naturally occurring compound obtained as a by-product of fermentation, and the method preserves the coffee's own flavours.

Does decaf coffee contain any caffeine?

Very little. Almost all the caffeine is removed from decaf coffee, but a small amount always remains. In the EU, roasted coffee sold as decaffeinated may contain at most 0.1% caffeine, so a cup of Sariola is fine in the evening too.

Does decaf coffee taste the same as regular coffee?

Good decaf coffee tastes like coffee. Modern methods preserve the coffee's own flavours, and many of our customers say Sariola is the best decaf they have tasted.

Is decaf coffee good for drip coffee makers and espresso?

Yes. Sariola Light is at its best as decaf filter coffee. For decaf espresso and milk drinks, choose the fuller and more chocolatey Sariola Dark. Sariola comes ground for boiled coffee, Chemex, filter, moka pot or espresso.

Can I buy decaf coffee beans?

Yes. Choose Bean as the grind and grind the coffee yourself just before brewing. Decaf coffee beans keep their flavour longer than pre-ground coffee.

How fresh is the coffee?

We roast several times a week, so your coffee is sent out fresh and has not been sitting on a shop shelf.
