A trip from Mikkeli to Saimaa
Kirjalan Paahtimo is a micro-roastery founded in Mikkeli in 2018, which began in the heart of the old wooden house district of Kirjala. In the spring of 2020, we took a new step and moved our roastery to Heimari, in the pulse of Lake Saimaa.
Roastmaster Olli roasts the coffees manually, in accordance with artisan craftsmanship, prioritizing a high-quality taste experience.
Kirjala has expanded its operations and success with a confident approach, and we collaborate extensively with local businesses and large grocery chains. Through our online store, we are also able to serve artisan coffee to the rest of the world!
Roasting experiences for the coffee table
It all started with a single moment at a hotel breakfast in Porvoo, where Olli tasted, for the first time, a "mind-blowing" coffee produced by a micro-roastery.
After that experience, "normal" quality coffee was no longer enough; he needed something more unique. A coffee that would be more than just coffee. That was the beginning of the hunt for the perfect coffee taste.
The search for a coffee selection was conducted carefully and thoughtfully from the very beginning. Only the best coffee varieties were accepted, sourced from all over the world – from Central and South America all the way to Africa.
The coffees prepared in our roastery offer a springboard into the world of the finest coffees.
We are coffee activists and consultants for good coffee. We are creating a culture where everyone can brew the best cup of coffee of their lives.
Kirjala Café
Our Kirjalan Paahtimo street-level café opened its doors on Nuijamiestenkatu in the spring of 2020.
The small size of our neighborhood café conceals great flavor experiences and a warm atmosphere. In our café, we believe in the power of good coffee and its ability to bring people together. Coffee acts as a driver for ideas, a facilitator of better conversations, and a creator of experiences.
This café has become a go-to spot for locals, and people even travel here from further away, and for good reason. Conversations reach beyond one's own table, and in our café, everyone is an acquaintance to one another, which has created a unique space where everyone is welcome.
In the autumn of 2024, the café was named the 19th best café in Finland, an impressive achievement in a highly competitive industry.
